Spinacia oleracea L. Spinach was cultivated over 2,000 years ago in Iran, but was grown earlier by the ancient Greek and Roman civilisations. Our name for spinach is derived from the Persian word "ispanai" which means "green hand" and which later became "spanachia" (Late Latin). The arabs named spinach "the prince of vegetables". Today it is considered to be a super food by many leading health experts. Calorie for calorie, leafy green vegies like spinach provide more nutrients than any other food. Available year round, with a peak growing period from autumn to spring
Apart from being organically grown, these salads are packaged using the very latest in bio-degradable materials. The pre-pack bags are made of poly lactic acid (PLA), which is derived from corn resin, a renewable resource. The material is bio-degradable, meaning it breaks down simply and quickly so does not contribute to landfill or pollution. Traditional plastic packaging can take many, many years to break-down.
